refreshing tile grout

grout renew

Things have been a bit quiet around here lately but that doesn't mean there isn't serious DIY happening in the background! I just made the mistake of starting a small "fun" project in the hall which snowballed into me having to paint all the woodwork in there and on the stairs *sob* while still working on our bathroom upstairs.

Anyone who's ever painted a cream skirting board white and not had anyone bloody notice after your hours of fiddly painting will tell you what a boring and thankless job it is, but alas, it needed to be done.

However, I did also do the quickest, easiest, most satisfying little project in the bathroom that I wanted to share with you today...

Here you see our bathroom tiles. Dated? Yes. Horrible enough to go to the trouble of painting them or something? No.

So they were staying, but that filthy, stained grout had to go.

Enter this little miracle product....

I found it in B&Q, it was €12 for the tube and I'd say I used less than a quarter of it on this room.

You just dab it on the grout you want to freshen up and leave it for about an hour to dry....

.....then come back with a scrubby sponge and use some elbow grease to wash off the excess, leaving you with beautiful, clean grout lines!

The grout is porous so it soaks up the colour, wheras it can be wiped off the glazed part of the tile quite easily. Mine are not the shiny type and they have a little bit of texture so it was harder than it would have been to clean it off of shiny tiles, but it still wasn't difficult.

Honestly, this was one of the easiest, most satisfying projects I've ever done, and the difference it makes to the room is pretty amazing! Who knew fresh grout could change the feel of a room so dramatically?! The whole room feels so much fresher and more modern now, and the tiles themselves even look more attractive with their bright new outlines.

I think we need to look at it again, side by side this time....

See?! Amazing right?! It's basically a miracle!!

I'm definitely going to be doing this again in the kids bathroom soon, it's a cheap, easy little job that just made the biggest difference.

What do you think, would you try this?
