finding the perfect mirror....almost

I've been looking for a new mirror for over our bed for a while now. I did have the diy paper sunburst mirror I made hanging there, but two years later it was looking really limp and tired so I took it down, and I've been looking for a replacement ever since. I wanted gold, I wanted mirror, I wanted an interesting shape and I didn't want to spend too much money on it!

The old mirror. Hello first attempts at blog photography!.....blogtography?

And then I saw it...

This bad boy was just €25 in The Range and I snapped it up immediately. Was it gold? No, but it ticked every other box and was so cheap that it was worth it to me to get my gold paint out and spend an hour or two changing the colour.

Two coats (which took an hour and a half total) later it was exactly what I wanted. And it was really easy to do. Paint scrapes off glass so easily that I didn't bother being too precise with it. I just sat down in front of an episode of Teen Mom (it makes me feel better about my parenting) and got on with it. I find precise, repetitive little jobs like that quite therapeutic actually.

Oh, hai. I know, the frames are crooked. It bothers me.....but not enough to take another picture now they're fixed.

So now it's in pride of place over our bed, drawing the eye and reflecting light, just like I hoped it would. So I guess I just wanted to say that you shouldn't write things off just because they aren't exactly what you were looking for. If you're on a budget or you're looking for something very specific, often it just takes a little tweak to end up with exactly what you wanted. Always shop with an open mind!
